If you've never heard of Goose Creek State Park near Washington, NC — you're not alone. I'll be honest, I grew up less than 45 minutes away and had never stepped foot there until this session. That's on me, because this place is absolutely stunning, and it's now one of my favorite spots for portrait photography in Eastern NC.

Discovering a hidden gem in Eastern North Carolina

Goose Creek is a state park tucked along the Pamlico River that offers cabin rentals for overnight stays and a beautiful, quiet beach that feels worlds away from everything. It's the kind of location that makes you wonder why you didn't find it sooner. For photographers and clients looking for something other than the typical backdrop, Goose Creek delivers — wide open skies, natural shoreline, and that warm golden light during sunset that makes every shot feel cinematic.

A one-of-a-kind Indian birthday celebration shoot

I had the privilege of photographing a meaningful Indian birthday celebration at Goose Creek, and it was unlike any session I'd done before. The client came with her culture woven into every detail — a beautiful saree, fresh flowers, incense, and traditional ceremonial bowls. Every prop told part of her story, and my job was simply to capture it as naturally and authentically as possible.

That's what I love most about portrait photography — every session is different. Whether I'm photographing seniors, families, or milestone celebrations, I want the photos to feel like you. No cookie-cutter poses. Just real moments with a little direction and a lot of good lighting.
